Wasootch Ridge

Distance: 13.4km (out and back)

Elevation Gain: 828m

Rating: moderate to difficult

Remoteness: This is a popular hike, you will likely run in to other hikers on this ridge!

This hike is a staple for us because it is a great early and late season hiking trail. It can even be done in the winter! Although ice and snow still make crampons a must. This hike starts off steep, getting you warm really fast. We’re big fans of this because it doesn’t take long to start getting spectacular views of Kananaskis. Once at the ridge proper, the trail is a series of peaks, meaning lots of walking up and down. In total, this hike is 13.4km out and back, with 931m of elevation gain.

Once on the ridge, the hiking is fairly easy, with an easy to follow path. However, the last kilometer of the ridge walk feels exposed, and is not for the faint of heart. It also requires a bit of short climbing in a few spots. The good news is, it’s not necessary to summit the final peak to get the views that this hike has to offer! This makes it a great hike for all levels, because you can turn around whenever you please. Our only complaint with this hike, is that it’s a busy one. If you’re looking for seclusion, this isn’t the hike for you.
