Little Lougheed

Distance: 5.0km (Out and back)

Elevation: 727m

Rating: Moderate to difficult

Remoteness: This hike is busy unless you do it on a weekday, or early/late in the day!

Little Lougheed is a great hike if you’re short on time, but looking for great views (with the bonus of a solid workout).

The beginning of this hike starts right at highway 742/Spray Lakes Road.  The path is slightly tricky to find, but it is hikers left of the small creek.  There are many small pathways leading in different directions, but if you follow a general upward direction, you are probably going the right way!

This hike gains elevation with no breaks until you reach the peak.  The great thing about this, is that it doesn’t take very long to get a view of the sparkling Spray lakes.  The path is steep, but with no exposure, as most of this hike falls within the tree line.  Because this is a well-travelled path, some parts are mildly slippery, and there are lots of exposed roots.  However, there are an abundance of trees and bushes to grab if you need them!

Once you leave the tree line, a very minor and short scramble is required to reach the summit.  The mountain offers many paths to the same destination.  Whichever way you choose, it will be steep with lots of loose rock.  However, there is minimal to no exposure.  Anyone not used to scrambling may find this tricky, but experienced scramblers will have no problem.  Anyone determined to reach the summit can do this one if they take their time!

We love doing this hike in the early morning, or late evening to beat the crowds.  It’s great as a sunset or sunrise hike! If the wind allows it, this mountain is a great place for a peak nap. The hike down is much faster than the way up!
